Because of Winn-Dixieis an amazing story and has a lot of lovable characters. India Opal is the main character and the one who finds Winn-Dixie, who is the one who helps bring everyone together. The characters are all good and nice everyone who was thought to be mean turned out to be nice but some of them, I thought, were not needed to the plot. First, there is Amanda, sure she was the one who showed us the sadness of loss, but India already introduced us to that concept early on in the book. Then there is Steve who I thought was a cookie cutter character and we already have Amanda who is a meany who turns out to be nice, so, pick one of two to get rid of! Anyway aside from them I thought Gloria was by far the best because she was the one who made the decision to invite Steve and Dunlap, which in turn led them to be India’s friends along with several other things of course. The plot was nice and apart from a few I thought the subplots were awesome. I wanted the subplot of The Preacher to be payed more attention to though. So all and all I love this story and I give it a 4 ½ / 5.
Thank you to all the people that helped to make, drink, and have a blast at the Room 9 Summer BBQ Pot Luck Lemonade Stand! With your help we raised enough money to subsidize the cost of the "book pack" for each student...from $69 to $20. I have the whole Summer Reading Project ready to go. You (the parent) can pick up the packs any time before school or at pickup. You can even sponsor a student for an exciting summer of reading and writing. If you have any questions about the Tournament...please check out the 2 pages call Tournament of Books House Bright or House Stars (each is a different set of books determined by DRA assessment data from the last trimester of second grade). You can always stop by the classroom to check it out as well. Thank you! Mr. Franklin =)
