"What makes a successful business?"

Mini-Mall is a Project Based Learning Unit that uses "hands on" teaching to demonstrates  the economics behind a student led business.  Each student will be part of a team of employees that design, build, and sell a product in their own store.

Craft Ideas...Step 1...Due Tuesday, April 16th...

Your business will need to come up with three (3) different craft ideas to pitch to your investor (Mr. Franklin).

Check out some of the ideas that I found...OR...use a google search for...fun kid crafts...easy kid crafts...second grade crafts...etc...

Market Research...Step 2...Due Wednesday, April 17th...

After your business comes up with their three ideas for their crafts...you'll need to head out to the playground and ask the public which one they would prefer to purchase.

1. Create a tally table...
2. Create a line plot or bar graph to show your data...make it beautiful...use graph paper...
3. Show it to your investor for approval...

Your Investor Meetings...Step 3...Thursday, April 18th...Ongoing...

Along the way, you will meet with your investor(s) to see how your business is going.  Get your "start-up" loan.  Sign your contract.  Will you need more funding?  Will you need to purchase more equipment or supplies?  These meetings will decide how your business is showing signs of "success" or lack of "success".  And then plan accordingly.

The Build...Step 4...Friday, April 19th - Wednesday, May 1st...

Your business is ready to construct their product...at least 150 individual models will need to be made.  Start bringing in supplies from home (not store bought) or use school supplies (ask Mr. Franklin for help...)...ALL SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT WILL BE CHARGED FROM YOUR INVESTOR FUNDS...You can use up to $20 collected from families of your group to buy certain MUST HAVE supplies.  However, you are encouraged to use as much "reused" materials that you can find at home.  Reused supplies will be sold at a discount to groups as opposed to store bought items.

Building Your Storefront...Step 5...
Thursday, May 2nd - Wednesday, May 8th...

Your business is almost ready for The Room 12 Mini-Mall Grand Opening (Tuesday, May 14th)...you'll need to build your storefront...

Step 1...Paint or use paper to write the name of your store or product on the top...don't forget the price...

Step 2...Decorate the bottom with pictures of how your product might be used (examples & possibly a slogan)...

Film A Commercial...Possible Step 5 1/2...May 9th - May 13th...

Only if your group is finished and ready  for the grade opening can you purchase a film crew and create a commercial for your store.  Advertising is a great way to get shoppers excited to buy your product.  You will need to write a script, hire a film crew (Mr. Franklin or arrange to film and edit at home with a parent), and purchase web space to show your commercials.  You can also choose to film and edit on your own Chromes as a reduced cost to your business.

Practice Using Money and How To Treat Customers...Step 6...
Monday, May 6th - Monday, May 13th...

Your business will watch training videos that show how and how not to treat customers.  Then ALL employees will practice using money, making change, greeting customers, and having positive interactions with shoppers.

Grand Opening...Step 7...

Friday, May 17, 2024 is the GRAND OPENING OF THE ROOM 12 MINI-MALL...

Some 1st grade classes, your buddy class, some parents, and Rooms 5, 7, & 11 will come in to purchase your products.

This is where friends and family can help out.  To avoid spending too much money, we are trying to help people get rid of craft items they might not need anymore.  Please check out what each store needs...if you have extras of anything around the house...PLEASE BRING  IN CRAFT ITEMS TO SHARE ALL NEXT WEEK!!!  Scroll  to the bottom to see what each group needs.  Thank you very much!
